Who needs care?

Answer 6 quick questions to see what Direct Primary Care plus health sharing could cost your household.

Buying your own plan in Middle Georgia

Middle Georgia has a lot of working families whose income sits near the poverty line, and that's where Georgia's rules get complicated. Georgia hasn't fully expanded Medicaid. Instead, Georgia Pathways covers adults below the poverty line who report 80 hours a month of work or other activity (source).

So the honest answer here often starts with Pathways, Medicaid for children and Georgia Access, not health sharing. The alternatives fit best for households paying full price: business owners, Robins contractors, trades and farm families with good years, and early retirees.

Georgia Pathways and the coverage gap: check these first

If your household income is below the federal poverty line, you may not qualify for a Marketplace tax credit. Georgia Pathways can cover adults in that range who meet its work or activity requirement, but few people use it: fewer than 18,000 were enrolled as of May 2026 (source). About 175,000 Georgians fall in the coverage gap, by one estimate (source).

Before paying for anything, check Georgia Pathways, Medicaid and PeachCare for Kids for the children, and Georgia Access. Federally qualified community health centers in Middle Georgia charge on a sliding scale based on income.

Health sharing and a primary care membership aren't insurance, and at very low incomes they may not be affordable either. Call us and we'll be straight about whether they make sense for you.

Who it fits here, and who should stay on insurance

Usually a good fit: healthy individuals and families who buy their own plan, self-employed people, early retirees under 65, and households whose income is too high for much Marketplace help.

Usually better on insurance: anyone who qualifies for Georgia Medicaid or PeachCare for Kids, anyone with a serious ongoing condition who needs it paid for in year one, anyone planning a pregnancy in the next nine months, anyone who needs regular mental-health therapy, and anyone whose tax credit makes an ACA plan cheap.

In this region specifically: If your income is modest, check your Georgia Access tax credit, Pathways and PeachCare for Kids before anything else. The alternatives are usually best for households paying full price.

Questions we hear from this region

What is Georgia Pathways?

It's Georgia's limited Medicaid program for adults with income below the poverty line who report at least 80 hours a month of work, school, job training or volunteering. If you might qualify, apply before looking at alternatives.

Can I use Atrium Health Navicent or Houston Healthcare with health sharing?

Yes. Health sharing doesn't use a provider network. You pay as a self-pay patient up to your Initial Unshareable Amount and submit eligible bills.

Is this health insurance?

No. Health care sharing and direct primary care are alternatives to insurance. Sharing is voluntary and not guaranteed, and it isn't Minimum Essential Coverage. Georgia has no state penalty for going without insurance.

Free, no obligation. Georgia households only.

Health care sharing
Health care sharing ministries are not insurance and are not regulated as insurance. Sharing of medical expenses is voluntary and not guaranteed. Review each organization's guidelines for details, limitations, and state-specific notices.

Georgia notice (O.C.G.A. § 33-1-20)
Georgia law requires a health care sharing ministry to give this notice on or with its applications and guideline materials: “Notice: The organization facilitating the sharing of medical expenses is not an insurance company, and neither its guidelines nor plan of operation is an insurance policy. Whether anyone chooses to assist you with your medical bills will be totally voluntary because no other participant will be compelled by law to contribute toward your medical bills. As such, participation in the organization or a subscription to any of its documents should never be considered to be insurance. Regardless of whether you receive any payment for medical expenses or whether this organization continues to operate, you are always personally responsible for the payment of your own medical bills.” Health care sharing is not Minimum Essential Coverage.

Direct primary care
Direct primary care is a membership with a primary care practice. Under Georgia's Direct Primary Care Act (2019), a direct primary care agreement is not insurance and is not subject to the state's insurance laws; the agreement must say in writing that it is not health insurance. A DPC membership does not pay for specialists, hospital care or emergencies, and it is not Minimum Essential Coverage.

Discount plans
THIS PLAN IS NOT INSURANCE and is not intended to replace health insurance. A discount plan provides discounts at participating providers and does not make payments to providers; the member pays the discounted fee. Discount plan organization: Careington International Corporation, 7400 Gaylord Parkway, Frisco, TX 75034. Discount plans are not ACA Qualified Health Plans.
